Despite its "Hush Puppy" appeal, the Basset is essentially a hunting dog with strong natural instincts and will power. It is generally placid, if sometimes a little stubborn, and should show neighter nervousness nor agression. It can be vocal at times and its rich, baying bark can be quite penetrating.
