The Briard is a big-hearted dog, utterly loyal to its owner who it will guard with its life. It is spirited and a thinker, and feels happy in its own domain, seldom seeking to wander. The breed can be reserved with strangers and rather independent, but to those it knows it is both loving and faithful. For these reasons the Briard may not be the ideal dog for a first time buyer.
